Sirocco Signs

Timber or wood finger posts

Welcome to Sirocco Signs.  We are a leading supplier of signs and panels to country parks, nature reserves and other public open spaces.  Sirocco specialise in the design and production of sandblasted timber and stone products – timber finger posts are an item in which we excel and offer a wide variety of products.

Several timbers are used for finger posts but the most common are oak, pressure treated softwoods, larch and Douglas Fir.  Cedar is also used on occasions for finger-posts.  For a consistent design and appearance the same timber and treatment method should be used for both the post and directional finger am of the finger post unit.

The number of finger arms is an important consideration when specifying timber finger-posts.  Due to the fixing and morticing of the posts too many finger arms can weaken the post structure.  Please contact us for advise about this feature of timber or wooden finger posts.

Finger arms are either produced as routed arms with indented graphics or are supplied as tactile arms with sandblasted graphics.  The latter look attractive and striking but many be over stated for a traditional finger post.  At Sirocco wood or timber finger arms are usually stained and the text and images painted to agrred colours.  The posts will be stained or treated depending on whether softwood or oak is used.

Timber finger posts can be finished with decorative tops to create a more stylish unit.  Four way or two way weathered tops are popular while routed bands can create an added layer of interest to a more decorative posts.  While timber and wood finger-posts are most normally found in rural environments they can work well in urban settings if care is taken over the finishing.  Oak is often selected for urban finger posts if they are to match other street furniture in the area
