Interpretive signs are found in nature reserves, country parks and open spaces.  They help to both educate and inform visitors by providing interpretive information as a permanent sign while also trying to influence the behaviour of visitors.  Signs must be carefully designed to ensure that the interpretive messages are well thought out and clearly presented.  Consideration should be given to what other interpretive media and signs are already on site or in the area to ensure that the new signs are consistent.

Most interpretive signs are required to last well outdoors and to be easy to clean and maintain. Our aluminium signs are produced in a unique anodising process that offers excellent colour fastness and are easy to clean – graffiti can be easily cleaned from the sign surface of the interpretive panel.  This printing process has undergone extensive tests by being immersed in  various chemicals and acids and tested at high temperatures – all of which show no effect on the printed surface making it an ideal base for interpretive signs.

Care must be taken in the mounting of interpretive signs to ensure they look attractive and are distinctive but do not dominate the landscape.  Sirocco offer a wide variety of framing structures including interpretive lectern frame signs produced in both steel and timber.  The timber lectern frame can be supplied in either Oak or pressure treated softwood – both options display interpretive signs to a high standard.  Steel lecterns are also a popular choice with either galvanised mild steel or brushed stainless steel being an ideal base – the painted  mild steel option being popular for rural interpretive signs and the stainless steel for urban environments.
