Interpretation Panel
Welcome to Sirocco Signs – we print, design and supply interpretation panels in a variety of framing structures and in a variety of materials. We are best known for our beautiful sandblasted timber signs and our skills in this area allow us to design and produce interpretation panels with a difference.
To be effective an interpretation panel must be designed with great care and with the intended audience in mind. Once of the reasons that our skills in designing sandblasted timber signs is so useful is that the techniques to design and sandblasted sign are totally compatible with an effective interpretation panel. The use of only a few words, carefully scripted, a simple map without excess detail and simple but headline illustrations are the answer to both tactile timber and printed interpretation panels.
At Sirocco we offer a full design team but are also happy to work from your own electronic artwork. Our in-house graphic design team specialise in interpretation panels and we can provide skills that cover research, scriptwriting, cartography and map work and the provision of both natural history and historical or archaeological illustrations. Some clients prefer the use of photographs on interpretation panels and we have links with a high class amateur photographer with the most amazing library of images – we have never yet been unable to meet the demand for a particular species.
The Sirocco design team can either work from your component parts or we can design these parts. Often a client will have a very clear idea of what is required on their interpretation panel and will provide the final text, will supply all the images and photographs and electronic copy of the map. At Sirocco we are commissioned to pull all these parts together into an attractive and striking design that will encourage visitors to read the interpretation information contained on the panel.
A very useful technique to ensure an effective panel is to pre-test the interpretation design – some thing that can be done over a weekend with a temporary print and encouraging visitors to provide feedback. Often the most basic interpretation design issues can be picked up on the sign during this exercise – the text being too small, being a classic example.
