Heritage Signs
Welcome to Sirocco Signs. We are a leading supplier of interpretation and interpretive signs to the heritage sector and can both design and supply panels for both internal and external applications. Our unique skills in producing sandblasted timber and stone signs provide an opportunity to produce highly individual signs and boards for heritage sites and applications.
High quality graphic design is of key importance in the production of interpretive or interpretation boards and signs required in the heritage sector. Sirocco are well aware of the demands required and have a design team in-house. We can also work from your own complete electronic artwork or from your component parts with Sirocco Signs finishing the design.
Heritage interpretation is about providing an environment that encourages visitors to attend and provides an attraction of sufficient interest that they will both stay, spend money and return or recommend others to visit. While the underlying site must be of interest the level of interpretation must reflect the site and both educate and inform visitors while influencing their behaviour.
The impact of a heritage interpretation panel is strongly influenced by both the quality of the graphic design and the style and impact of the fixing structure. In the field of heritage interpretation there is often great scope for high quality graphics. Many visitors with an interest in the heritage field love panels with old archive photographs – old black and white images can be very evocative. This area also provides scope for large watercolour illustrations that recreate the scene, building or event and really bring the heritage story being interpreted to life.
Fixing structures are important in the impact of a panel providing interpretation about the heritage of an area. Often they lend themselves to Oak lectern frames or side mounted vertical oak posts but steel frames can also be appropriate for many interpretive signs in a heritage environment. Also worth considering are stainless steel lectern frames or posts and finishing the signs in a more decorative style with finials and cast header panels. Care needs to be taken that both design and structure are appropriate for the heritage location and panel or sign that is being designed but done well a heritage interpretation project adds greatly to the facility.
